Five

His lips were just as sure as his friend Maria’s. Large hands skimming my body and memories of his filled my mind.

Women. Lots of women. Tall, short, skinny, curvy, all races and ethnicities… it didn’t matter. He was a lady’s man through and through with a voracious appetite. Their faces were all blurry, though, just a vague memory of them all.

Except for one.

A baby.

A small pink blanket wrapped around her and a card marked with the name Sarah. The face of pure innocence as he held her. Small hands waved in the air as she cried, only settling when he bounced with her. There was a woman there, blonde hair, sweaty brow laid up in a hospital bed who looked at the baby with a soft smile, though, it didn’t reach her eyes when she looked at the man.

Fast forward and they are fighting with quiet words, immediately stopping when the little girl skipped into the room. Curly blonde hair surrounding her face and a wide grin with her two front teeth missing. Both parents smiled, the love for the little girl stronger than their issues with each other as they focused completely on her.

The next scene that filled my mind showed me the man in his current clothes, kissing the little girl goodbye as he dropped her off with her mom. The little girl hugged him, a loud smacking kiss on his cheek as she sneakily tucked in a lucky rabbit foot keychain. It was a white fluffy thing that she stuck in one of his front pockets.

“Bye, Daddy! I’ll see you tomorrow.” She grinned at him, grabbing her backpack and sliding out of the car.

“See you tomorrow, baby.” He waved his hand cheerfully as he watched her run up the steps to her mom waiting on the porch.

“Gwen.” He nodded in greeting to the mom. There was a slight warmth in his tone, friendly as if they had worked through some of their issues to be able to co-parent peacefully. “I’ll be by tomorrow night. What time works for you?”

“Hey, Mark. After dinner? I promised to make her favorite, mac and cheese with hotdogs and bubble juice,” she asked, picking up the little girl to spin her around. She grinned at Mark when they came to a stop, happiness making her face flush as she looked at their daughter.

“Sounds good to me!” He smiled. “Love you, Sarah bear!”

“Love you too, Daddy!” She waved at him, grinning to show off her missing teeth.

“Night.” He waved at both of them, starting up the car again. He drove off without looking back to come to this party with friends.

And then he met me.

The woman who would kill him and take all of that away.

The man nipped my bottom lip, the familiar taste of blood pulled me back to the present as his hands wandered lower. He groaned when he reached down under my skirt and realized I wasn’t wearing any underwear. The man pulled back, gasping, and his friend turned to see what was going on.
